Saying goodbye to a beloved member of your family can be one of the hardest decisions we as pet owners can have to make.
At Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists, we are here to comfort and support you every step of the way. Our compassionate veterinary professionals will go through every option available and give you and your family as much time as you need to make the best decision for you.
We offer end of life services 24/7 in both our Buzzards Bay and Dennis locations. Although no appointment is necessary, if you can, please call ahead so that our team can be ready and waiting for you when you arrive. Calling ahead is also helpful if your pet is having a difficult time walking and you will need help getting them out of your car. Unfortunately, we do not provide house call euthanasias at this time.
Our hospital is equipped with a comfort room, which is decorated to feel more home-like and calming for you and your pet. You are welcome to spend as much or little time as you need with your pet before and after euthanasia. In our Buzzards Bay hospital, this room also offers an alternate exit to our building, so when you’re ready, you won’t need to walk through our lobby to leave the hospital.
If you’d like to bring your pet into CCVS for end of life services, please fill out our new client form and either email it to us ahead of time or bring it with you.

The Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…
