AAHA Accredited Care

At Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists, we are proud to have earned accreditation from the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) for our Emergency, Internal Medicine, and Surgery departments.

AAHA accreditation is considered one of the highest achievements in veterinary medicine. Earning this distinction requires a significant commitment of time, training, and ongoing evaluation to meet rigorous standards of excellence in patient care, safety, and hospital operations.

Because the accreditation process is so comprehensive, we chose to begin with our three largest departments—Emergency, Internal Medicine, and Surgery. This milestone represents an important first step in our ongoing commitment to excellence, and we look forward to pursuing accreditation for additional specialty services in the future.

Unlike human hospitals, veterinary hospitals are not required to be accredited. Practices that pursue AAHA accreditation do so voluntarily because they are committed to providing exceptional care and continually improving the services they offer.

What Does AAHA Accreditation Mean?

Only a small percentage of veterinary hospitals qualify
Approximately 15% of veterinary hospitals in the United States and Canada have achieved AAHA accreditation. Choosing an AAHA-accredited hospital means choosing a practice that has demonstrated a commitment to meeting some of the highest standards in veterinary medicine.

Comprehensive standards of excellence.
To earn and maintain accreditation, hospitals must meet hundreds of standards that cover nearly every aspect of veterinary care, including anesthesia, pain management, surgery, emergency and critical care, medical records, laboratory services, pharmacy protocols, client communication, staff training, and more.

An ongoing commitment to quality.
AAHA accreditation is not a one-time achievement. Accredited hospitals undergo regular evaluations, typically every three years, to ensure they continue to meet AAHA’s continually updated standards and maintain the highest level of care.

For pet owners, AAHA accreditation provides peace of mind, knowing their pet is receiving care from a hospital that has voluntarily chosen to be measured against the profession’s most respected benchmarks.
